木の持つ力
古くから植物を染料とした「染め」により布や紙を丈夫にしたり、色を変えるなどが行われてきました。しかしながら、天然染料の不安定さや、堅牢度の弱さから、安定した染料が手に入りやすい現代では、ほとんど流通していない天然染料もあります。
濃い薄いの差はありますが多くの木や樹皮から染料が抽出できます。家具で使われていなかった削りくずや樹皮などを使い、ハンカチよりも少し大きめのクロスを作りました。
Power of wood

出会い
高山市で開かれたSDGsの勉強会で出会った福祉事業を展開する喜林グループケアトピックの上井さん。
「1本の木が持つ価値を高めたい」と考えていた木と暮らしの制作所と利用者の「生きがい」「社会参加」を作りたい考えていたケアトピックでIROMUプロジェクトを立ち上げることとなりました。
上井さんから、「社会参加」が目に見える形にしたいという意見もあり、利用者の皆さんには製造の一部を担当するのでははなく染めから梱包までのすべてを担当してもらっています。どうすれば無理なく製品にできるのか、どうやってクオリティを保つのか、「これならできる」を見つけて試してもらいながら今の形になりました。
木と暮らしの制作所は商品の企画、材料の仕入れや染め材料の調達、出来上がったIROMUの営業やプロモーションなどを担当しています。
現在、IROMU製作への参加は自由。どうやったら参加してくれる人が増えるか、スタッフがお手伝いしているところをどうやったら任せられるようになるか。プロジェクトは試行錯誤の真っただ中です。
Encounter
At a study session on the SDGs held in Takayama City, I met Kamii from Care Topic, a group that develops welfare projects for the Kirin Group. Our company wanted to increase the value of a single tree. Mr. Kamii wanted to create a “purpose in life” and “social participation” for the elderly. We decided to launch the IROMU project.
Mr. Kamii had the opinion that he wanted to make "social participation" visible. The elderly users are not in charge of part of the manufacturing, but they are in charge of everything from dyeing to packing. I thought about how to make it into a product without difficulty and how to maintain the quality, and it became the current form. Our company is in charge of producing Irom, purchasing materials, procuring dyeing materials, and selling finished products. The project is currently in trial and error.
福祉とものづくりが生み出す効果
高山市にあるリハビリ型デイサービスLocomoでIROMUのプロジェクトがはじまってから、膝が痛いとすぐに座り込む方が染めの作業中はずっと立っていられたり。腕が上がらないと言っていた方の腕が伸びていたりと驚く効果が出ているようです。
一般的に福祉施設でつくられた製品はどこか野暮ったく、なんだか惜しいものが多い印象がありました。だからこそ、インテリアショップや雑貨屋さんに置かれていてもよさそうな素敵に見えるものを作ろう。そういった想いでプロジェクトを始めました。
全国のお取引店さんで取り扱いが始まり、最近ではありがたいことに結婚式の引き出物のひとつとして選んでいただけるなどの嬉しい事も。そして、意外だったのが、「これ私が行っているデイサービスでつくっているのよ」と利用者の方がプレゼントするために買っていく方が多いということです。
福祉とものづくりが生み出す効果は私が思っている以上に広がりがあるのかもしれません。

Locomo, a rehabilitative day care service in Takayama City, started the IROMU project, and it produced surprising results. An elderly person who usually sits down as soon as his knee hurts can stand all the time while working on the IROM, and an elderly person who said he can't raise his arm has his arm stretched out.
